On September 13, 2000, the College
of Engineering Sciences, Technology and Agriculture (CESTA) and the Office of
International Agriculture of Florida A&M University signed a Memorandum of Cooperation
with the United States Peace Corps establishing a Masters International Program
(MIP) in Agriculture. The program description and course requirements have been posted to
the FAMU Web site http://famu.edu/acad/colleges/cesta/peacecorps/ and program brochures
are now available for distribution. Now that the MIP exists as a program we need
students!!!
With the purpose of publicizing the new MIP at FAMU, Dr. Jack Petersen recently
presented a 15-minute slide show on his Peace Corps experiences in Burkina Faso, West
Africa including an overview and description of the FAMU MIP. The presentation took place
during the Informal Conference of the International Affairs Committee at the annual
meeting of the Entomological Society of America, Montreal, Canada on December 6, 2000. The
meeting was attended by 45 persons, including a handful of undergraduates who expressed an
interest in joining the Peace Corps.
In addition to the Informal Conference on Peace Corps opportunities, the International
Affairs Committee organized a table of brochures and information packets about
international programs. It was here that FAMU had the opportunity to publicize the new
Masters International Program in Agriculture.
