Three Rivers Science Fair Awards Ceremony |

PHEREC sponsored two special awards at the
Three Rivers Science and Engineering Fair held February 23-24, 2000 at the Naval Coastal
Systems Station in Panama City, Florida. Dr. John Smith presented the awards
consisting of a $50 savings bond and an outstanding achievement plaque for the best
science projects dealing with insects or other arthropods. Lee Majors was the Junior
Division awardee for his project entitled, "The Experimant." Michael Stokes was the Senior
Division winner for his project, mentored by Dr. James Cilek of PHEREC, entitled,
"Predator Wasps in Integrated Pest Management of Muscoid Flies." The
awards ceremony was held at the Martin Theater in Panama City on February 25th
and was covered by local television. Both young men received additional awards
including placing second in the zoology and environmental categories in their respective
divisions. |
